I do not know how to start this and even get it on the table for discussion for Washington, but regardless here goes:
Every 2 weeks or monthly for most of us, we get a pay check with deductions. I want the government to give the power to the people paying those taxes to decide where 50% goes. Everything else stays the same, but for your FEDERAL INCOME TAXES ONLY, YOU would once a month get to decide where 50% goes.
I want a website (run by the government, just like IRS.gov where they KNOW our info etc) where we can once a month move the sliders to fund the things that WE WANT.
This will make republicans go after republicans money and dems for dems. Dems will push their people to move slider bar towards Medical/science etc, repb will move theirs towards defense, military etc.
Again only 50% of the amount would you get to decide, the other 50% would go where ever the hell it goes now.
Every part of the budget can be set by percent up to 50%. You could also opt to leave things as they are and 100% go to the general government fund as it does now (for those that dont care etc).
This will give the people the feeling that their voice matters and I think it will. If NASA needs funding, let them ask, and if people want to let me INCREASE – yes you heard me right INCREASE the money they take out above what the government allows to fund specific things like science and education for me. Anything above the expect amount will be treated as a donation.
Let us vote with wallets, something Washington is much more interested in than our votes.
Treat it like my 401k that I can change every month. Then WHO the people in congress are wont matter, the lobbyists cant force you and I to fund their bullshit. Its much harder to sway millions by an idea that fucks them over.
I want this, and I dont even know how to get it started. But I think this could catch on globally. Power to the people, where it belongs.
