Open Letter to Congress

Where to begin?  I sit here writing this pondering our country [the U.S.] and the world around us.  I see a petty race of primates fighting over the limited resources of a single rock in the vastness of space and time.  I see my elected officials arguing over non-issues.  I see threats of not sending aid to old people and veterans so that rich white men can enjoy the tax breaks of the previous administration.  I sigh.  As a constituent of Texas, I find myself writing and calling my reps more and more and even emailing the president himself.  I see my science institution that electrified a generation 30 years ago dwindle to a fraction of its potential and past glory.  I see my taxes go to fund conflicts around the globe that I never agreed to sustain.  I see my brothers and sisters murdering my cousins.  We stand in the most privileged country on the planet, yet our success has been to the cost of those around us.

Some would say we should close our boarders and let the rest of the planet fend for themselves.  Many of us would not, however, stand by if someone asked for our help.  I agree we should indeed help those that ask.  I think we should even help those that do not ask, but need it.  I sit here and I day dream, staring into white light of notepad seeing these words appear on the screen.  I wonder if they are mine alone or does anyone on this rock we call home agree.  Will humanity ever change?  Are we destined to destroy ourselves bickering and fighting over who has the best deity, who has the stronger economy or who has the most people?  None of it matters except here on this planet.  Our fate lies in the stars and planets outside of our own.

So what am I saying exactly? We need to stop focusing on being a great nation. Yes that is what I mean to say.  Nationalism is a doubled edge blade by which every country will impale itself eventually.  The  ‘us vs them.’  For all the unity, for every positive  aspect nationalism brings, there is one fatal flaw: Us vs them.  If you can separate people into groups, fighting can begin.  You can rationalize many evils that you would otherwise not consider.  Would you murder your mother, your son, your daughter, your spouse, your partner, your best friend?  No, most rational people would not.  But what if they live on another side of the imaginary lines we have drawn over the landscape of this planet.  Now you have justification for killing anyone, someone’s son, daughter, spouse, mother, father, cousin.  They are not ‘us,’ they are ‘them.’

We need to start thinking globally.  Many think it would take a threat from outside the planet for us to finally wake up and think as collective species instead of the different breeds separated by imaginary lines in the soil and lines created by income, sex, religion, sexual preference, race; the list is well known.

We do have enemies that wish to murder us and destroy all that we have created and accomplished.  We will likely never change their perception of us, especially if we stay the course of our previous 100 years.  So this dreamer sits and dreams.  I do donate my money when I can to help causes I find just or worthwhile.  I do not complain when I know there are thousands that are scamming the social programs our government has fought so hard to keep, because I know that yes there will always be those that exploit our kindness and generosity.  I, however, do not see this as justification to deny my fellow people that DO need those programs the aid they require.   I would rather the exploitation increase, but lives be saved that otherwise would not without our help.

You might be asking, is this a liberal-minded, socialist, atheist asking and pleading with congress to take care of our old people? Partially yes, that is part of my dream.  However, I want more from you.  I want more from every American, every christian, muslim, hindu, atheist, jew, republican, democrat, indi, every race, and even more so, the whole planet that has the ability to read this and to share it.

I don’t want to be the country that the rest of the planet hates.  I don’t want there to be a country at all.  There is planet Earth. So far, that is all we have, but we can be so much more.  we are limited only by ourselves and the rules we craft around us.  I want real change.  Not change of party, or the change that our president promised, but without congress was unable to provide – nice attempt at least.  I admire your courage.

The biggest problem facing planet earth right now is not terrorists, extremists, the axis of evil, Iran, North Korea or even religion(sorry my fellow atheists).  The biggest problem is greed.  If there is no incentive of money making, we balk at doing the right thing.  I know we have secular and religious factions trying to aid places of the world that need our help.  They are doing a wonderful job.  But what if those groups had the manpower, and the funds of a fraction, a third to be exact, of budget set aside for killing other humans?  How would our European neighbors respond?  How would our enemies respond?

Don’t misunderstand me, I do not mean throwing money at a problem.  I mean creating lasting solutions.  We don’t need operation Iraqi freedom.   We need operation African Transformation.  Millions die due to lack of food, and unclean drinking water.  Something this planet can produce enough of if greed were not the motivator in our actions.  I desire to see clean, fresh running water around the globe.  I want medicine for free those that cannot afford it.  How many billions of military funding that would otherwise be used to murder humans would it take?  How many years of a 1/3 of just the US’s military budget, not including anyone other countries, would it take to ensure no one goes hungry on this planet?

I wonder how this era will be viewed 100 or a 1000 years from now.  I wonder how history will view the US, the planet, the species.  I find myself asking if I could write the narrative of the most powerful country on earth, how would write it?  Would the massive corporate profits be a bragging point or a point of shame of letting greed guide us.  Would I write that the country single handedly had the man power, and funds to create a lasting peace, or at least make a small tiny dent that empowered the people of Africa to rise up and sustain themselves?

I will agree this opens us up for our enemies to pounce.  Maybe they would indeed.  Maybe it would be the fall of this country, but I know our resolve.  I know we would rise above any challenge.  I KNOW we are not afraid of terrorists.  We stand at a crossroads each day on this planet.  Each of us has the chance to choose how we live.  We are lucky here in the US.  You my congressmen and women are those entrusted with the power to fund anything.  But there is no motivation, not a single incentive I can give you to justify this action, other than, hope.  Not for me, but for your children and grandchildren.

What if we took 200 billion – just 1/3 of the current approximate budget and took the army, with no weapons in tow and went to Africa to create infrastructure, industry, farmland, irrigation, clean drinking water, sewage treatment, schools and production.  As I said I do not want to just send money and food.  That does nothing when those in power just steal it and claim it was their doing while slandering those that provided it.  We do it on a volunteer basis.  No country that declines will be forced to accept our aid, but we will eventually sway them or people will leave to find the greener pasture we create next door.

I approve of my taxes, that you already have, go to this cause.  It is just, helpful and I think will create a lasting impression of the true human nature of our race: compassion.

I must say that I do not want us to try to influence them in any way beyond help.  No religious discussion, or demands for accepting one as a precursor for getting aid.  Let your actions be judged, not your book, government model.  Let them decide on their own.

I want to be the beacon of hope that caused so many of our ancestors to flock to this nation just over 250(ish) years ago.  I want to know that generations from now, when we are long dead, that we had the courage to do what is right, to set aside our greed and desire for money that means nothing outside the planet earth, and to strive to empower all humans to rise up and excel, and be remembered not as the US empire, but instead the beginning of a new era of human cooperation and compassion and love.

Was Martin Luther king just a simple person like me that had a dream that was different from the current state of things?  Am I the only one that sees the potential future of humans on this planet?  I hope not.  I often fear that I am.

Everyone keeps telling me it will never work and maybe it won’t.  But what if just the attempt caused a chain reaction throughout the planet?  What if a single action here and now, sets the tone for the next 1000 years on this planet, a simple turn of the wheel from greed, to compassion?  Who would be courageous enough to actually try?  We [US] always think we are the best at everything, so why not make the attempt.  We might be in no better place than we are now in 10-15 years with the debt, but think of what we could accomplish instead of murdering people in the deserts of the middle east.

I am middle class, tax me.  Take more from me and do this.  I do not have much, but I have more than many across this planet.  I cannot make others agree.  I cannot make others feel what I feel, nor would I want to.  If they cannot see this for what it is, beyond just a dreamer idealist speaking his thoughts, then I worry for the fate of this planet.  Oh not today or tomorrow, but eventually, painfully we will adapt or kill ourselves off.

I request, no I beg you, give it 10-15 years of 200 BILLION and manpower and we can change the face of the planet.   I would rather TRY and fail and be broke, as we currently claim to be, than continue using that money to murder those across the planet.

Be the Beacon of light in the darkness.  Congress you hold the keys to the money.  Remember that.  History will remember you, in office or out by your choices you make today.  Will you lead us into the light of global cooperation or will we all just be remembered as that greedy powerful nation?

The Beacon of Light project starts now with you.  You hold the torch in your hands.  You hold the power to actually make lasting changes for generations to come.  Please do not squander this chance.  1/3 of the budget we use to murder people across the globe, instead used to create a lasting, positive force in places that need it most.  We could transform the unused land into farmland and solar farms to sustain its people.  Please give it a chance.  Our policy of killing our enemies will only last so long, but helping others will live on in the history books as the moment when humanity stood up as one and said no more will greed be our guide.  Step into the light.

If I could, I would give 200 Billion for defense, 200 Billion for science (NASA!!!!) and 200 Billion for social projects here and in Africa to give them a fighting chance.  Can you imagine what a difference that would make?  Can you see my dream that I share with you all today?  It is there for the taking.  we only need those elected to serve as our representatives to set aside party lines, set aside arguments, set aside greed, self-preservation, self- interests and do something that has the chance, no matter how small of a chance it is, to sling shot us into space, while not leaving Africa to fend for itself, and change the course of history on this planet, for the better.  I would never kill a man kneeling down to feed a starving, dying child.  I don’t think our enemies will either.

600 billion is not the total in spending of our government it is actually 80 billion or so short of the budget for just the military for 2011.  One year. Split it into thirds and transform the consciousness of the planet to one of cooperation.  Dare to dream.  Dare to change.  Do not wait until the pain of not changing, is greater than pain of changing, as the reason we finally make that leap.  Take hold now and jump in with both feet and realize the destiny and potential of the human race on this tiny rock in sun beam.

Not Guilty of Murder

That is all America.    Stop crying about it.  If the prosecution couldnt present enough evidence to prove she murdered her child, then why is that not good enough for everyone?  They KNOW she did it?  Well its good, because people KNEW bitches were witches and burned them alive.

Thats why we have EVIDENCE so we can PROVE someone did something or not.  The Prosecution failed to do so and even teh Jurors agreed it was shit for evidence and they WANTED to convict her murder but the evidence was not there.

She is still a lying twat and that is what she was convicted of.

Move along…nothing to see here..
